Our faith community comes from the rich tradition of Methodism, a protestant branch of Christianity that came primarily out of the Anglican Church in the 18th Century. That may sound like a mouthful, but the central truth of the experience of the early Methodists is similar to our experience and desire today.
The early Methodists, led by John Wesley, later BT Roberts (the founder of the Free Methodist branch of Methodism), and others, were people who deeply wanted relationship with God to be transformative of peoples lives. They sensed that the institutional religious structures of their time were not reaching people to the extent which they felt called. To this end they began to reach out in new ways, most of which met people where they were. This lead to expressions of ministry that were new and different, from Sunday School to "open air preaching".
We're convinced that God is calling our community to the same goals and ideals. We share a sense that God's desire to transform people's lives goes beyond the boundaries of the institutional church. We believe that as we are faithful our ministry will take new and unexpected expression.
There are a plethora of resources to learn about the history of Methodists, the faith history that has given birth to our community. We would encourage you to learn more of the factual accuracy and depth of the Methodist witness. You can begin this lengthy journey here.
